A play of material, textures, shapes. An attempt to bring us back to the real tactility of honest materials. We work with Material that hold your shape, the marks of your existence and age with you.
OUR APPROACH
Studio Kikli is a design-studio and team of furniture makers based in Chandigarh, India.
We create objects that cherish local craft, the joy of creating with our hands, and that are tactile and textured. We are inspired by local histories, landscapes and the principles of modernist design.
At its core, Studio Kikli is about engagement ; with local craftspersons, their techniques, their material knowledge, and the things that already exist around us. We don’t import aesthetics. We work with what’s here: the craft, the people, and the place.
These objects are meant to be cherished as modern heirlooms.
Our designs lay at the intersection of vernacular craft and a design philosophy that honours the craftperson and the material. They understand the importance of slowing down and enjoying simple rhythms of life.
MATERIALS
We primarily work with Wood, Metal and Glass.
The types of wood we work with are Shisham ( North Indian Rosewood ) and Teak Wood. We source both new and reclaimed wood from verified sources. All wood is carefully selected to ensure quality and strength.
We strive to add to our repository unique and well-seasoned timber fit for furniture making. Get in touch with us to find out the kind of woods we have in store. (Here)
Our model of production is slow, and focuses on sustainability and longevity. All our furniture is Made to Order.
We strive to enhance localised systems of production and knowledge-systems that support artisans, craftspersons and artists.
